Total project amount: 1,000,000 lei

Project summary: The project aims to evaluate the potential of biomass in agriculture, its use in the production of bioethanol and biogas, in compliance with the principles of sustainable development. Renewable biomass sources in Romania have a high potential from an energetic and economic point of view. The project activities will materialize in the identification of biomass resources in agriculture, solutions will be offered, ways of capitalizing on it, as a renewable source, in order to increase competitiveness and energy security. The need to implement the project derives from the fact that its results can be used in the development and substantiation of public policies and in the integrated management of support schemes for agricultural producers. The results of research activities will be exploited for the purpose of sustainable economic development, increasing well-being and quality of life, and enriching the national heritage of knowledge.

The project objectives are achieved through the following STAGES:
· Stage 1: Study on identifying resources for biomass production from agricultural secondary production;
· Stage 2: Study on evaluating the energy and economic potential of biomass
· Stage 3: Study on evaluating the potential for bioethanol production
· Stage 4: Study on evaluating the potential for biogas production

The main expected results:
·Study on identifying resources for biomass production from agricultural secondary production;
·Study on evaluating the energy and economic potential of biomass;
·Study on evaluating the potential for bioethanol production;
·Study on evaluating the potential for biogas production.

How to apply/use the results:
· The project results will be addressed to agricultural producers and will be disseminated in stages, in order to inform and raise awareness among farmers regarding the economically efficient production and use of biomass, bioethanol and biogas from secondary agricultural production;
· The project results can be applied by:
–  establishing mechanisms to stimulate the production of raw materials for obtaining biofuels, by providing facilities to agricultural producers for cultivating energy plants;
–   using uncultivated land areas, unsuitable for conventional agricultural cultivation, in various stages of degradation, which can be used in energy crops, without requiring special improvement works.
·The results can be used in the development and substantiation of public policies and in the integrated management of support schemes for agricultural producers.
