History

The Research Institute for Agricultural Economics and Rural Development is accredited according to GD 551/2007, by A.N.C.S. Decision no. 9666/02.06.2008, as a component unit of the research and development system of national interest.

The Research Institute for Agricultural Economics and Rural Development was established in 1927 as the Rural Economics Section of the Institute of Agronomic Research of Romania (I.C.A.R.), which in 1967 became the Institute of Agricultural Economics (I.E.A.).

In 1962, the Central Institute for Agricultural Research (I.C.C.A.) was set up to coordinate all research activity in the field.

The Institute of Agrarian Economics became part of the Central Institute of Agricultural Research, reorganised in 1969 into the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, which in 1992 took the name of the Romanian scientist Gheorghe IonescuȘișești, becoming the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești”.

In 2002, under Law 290, the Institute of Agricultural Economics was reorganized and became the Institute of Research and Development for Agricultural Economics, and under GD 1301/2010 it was reorganized and renamed the Institute of Research for Agricultural Economics and Rural Development.
