IMPLEMENTATION PLAN:

Phase 1:  Identification of the impact of climate change on the vegetable sector.
Phase 2:  Analysis of the vegetable sector market and estimation of the breakeven point for the main organic vegetable crops in the field (2024 estimates).
Phase 3:  Forecasts of the influence of climate change on it and estimation of the breakeven point for the main organic vegetable crops in protected areas (2024 estimates).
Phase 4: Marketing study on the profile of the consumer of organic vegetable products in Romania and the estimation of the break-even point for the main organic vegetable crops in protected fields (2025 estimates).

Phase 5: Establishing the profile of the consumer of organic vegetable products and the estimation of the break-even point for the main organic vegetable crops in protected areas (2025 estimates).

Phase 6: Assessing the impact of support schemes on the vegetable sector. Solutions regarding the development of the organic vegetable sector in order to substantiate the support schemes granted to farmers to mitigate the effects of climate change and sustainably increase their incomes.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

General objective:

The project aims to analyze and optimize the organic vegetable sector in Romania in the context of climate change, by assessing the market, identifying the consumer profile of organic vegetable products, substantiating production methodologies and determining income and expenditure budgets. The main goal is to develop sustainable solutions to increase the performance of the organic vegetable sector and to support small and medium-sized farmers in the face of climate challenges, with the ultimate goal of sustainably increasing their incomes.

Specific objectives:

Analysis of the vegetable sector market (trade balance, market prices, production, etc.), but also forecasts of the influence of climate change on it;
Identification of the impact of climate change on the vegetable sector;
Estimation and analysis of correlations between price and the main factors influencing price from a climate change perspective;
Assessment of the impact of support schemes on the vegetable sector;
Marketing study on the consumer profile of organic vegetable products in Romania by developing a sociological survey on a consumer panel using structured questionnaires;
Substantiation of the methodology for designing production technologies for the main organic vegetable crops grown in fields and protected areas and their development;
Determination of income and expense budgets, production costs and market prices for the main organic vegetable crops grown in fields and protected areas;
Solutions regarding the development of the organic vegetable sector in order to substantiate support schemes granted to farmers to mitigate the effects of climate change and sustainably increase their incomes;

EXPECTED PROJECT OUTCOMES:

The main result of the project consists in providing a comprehensive analysis of the vegetable sector in Romania, taking into account complex variables such as climate change, trade balance, market prices and other relevant factors influencing this sector. Also, by implementing detailed research and analysis methods, the project will identify the impact of climate change on this sector and formulate appropriate solutions to mitigate these effects.
