Web application for the analysis of economic efficiency for sheep, goats, cattle, buffalo species ZOOSYST
General objective 24: Developing the administrative capacity, central and local administration, economic agents to develop and implement public policies, strategies and programs at national and regional level in the field of ensuring national food security and achieving the Europe 2020 strategic objectives
Specific objective 24.1: Developing studies and analyses to substantiate sectoral decisions and implement common agricultural policies
Project summary: The sheep, goats, cattle and buffalo breeding sectors are facing economic difficulties, due to the low degree of specialization and integration of production. The objective of the project is to accurately identify the most vulnerable segment of farms, by species, in order to provide useful information to the competent institutions, in order to develop support plans from public funds and revitalize the farms, which will contribute to the economic development of the livestock sector and to increasing the food security of the population, by increasing the supply of products intended for food consumption. The project will analyze economic efficiency indicators on farms of different sizes of the species under study. A comparative analysis of the technologies applied on farms will be made, taking into account the size, degree of mechanization and automation, location and method of using the workforce. An economic efficiency analysis program will result, through which the farmer can determine his profitability at the farm level.
The project objectives are achieved through the following STAGES:
· Stage 1: Study on the economic efficiency of the livestock sectors, by species and specialization areas;
· Stage 2: Economic efficiency of sheep and goat farms of different sizes, located in different geographical regions and landforms;
· Stage 3: Economic efficiency of cattle and buffalo farms of different sizes, located in different geographical regions and landforms;
· Stage 4: Economic efficiency analysis program for sheep, goats, cattle, buffalo.
Main expected results:
– Conducting case studies in farms of different sizes from different geographical regions and landforms, for sheep, goats, cattle and buffalo, by specialization directions milk/meat;
– Analysis of the economic efficiency of the farms in the case studies and identification of the vulnerable ones;
– Development of the user manual of the IT product intended for the analysis of economic efficiency.
How to apply/use the results:
The methods by which the results will be disseminated: the research results will be materialized in research reports, round tables, workshops/trainings with farmers and their associations, the development of articles in specialized agricultural magazines, scientific papers, books, software user manual, website, as well as participation in scientific events in the field.
The information from each stage will be provided to decision-makers, in order to substantiate support measures for livestock farms in difficulty;
The software from the last stage will be accessible online to animal breeders interested in streamlining the activity on livestock farms.
